What To Expect

We will begin by going over your health history, current pain or tension areas, and your goals for the work. Clothed movement and walking assessments will follow. Based off your goals, how you feel and what I see, we will develop a plan and area to start. Table work will begin, where I will get to know what touch and pressure works best for your body. If you are coming for a Ten-Series or to get to know Rolfing®, we will go Through a typical Session 1. With the territory of ribs, shoulders, hips, possibly arms and some attention spent addressing your current ‘problem’ areas, if any. Note, unless you are on session 10, we will not address the whole body in one session. If you are coming with a specific issue and are not doing the series. I will work on addressing it directly, inviting ease and integration through the rest of the system. Sessions will almost always end with neck work, and a pelvic lift (this is where we put on hand at the base of your spine on your sacrum). These two things are important for integrating the body after a session, it settles the nervous system and allows the body to orient itself.

You can expect to be involved and engaged in your session, Rolfing® is not about relaxation. When you relax you are taken away, to ‘somewhere else’. We aim to keep you present in your body. This is how we can consciously bring awareness to areas of the body and to change. Allowing the unconscious to hold onto these experiences. Throughout the session I will be checking in with you; about pressure, areas of concern and what you are experiencing. I might ask you to visualize different things to bring awareness to an area and helping your body to create space. Often, I will ask for movement and may even have you get up from the table to experience the difference in one side from the other.

“This is the gospel of Rolfing: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself.”
- Ida P. Rolf

What To Wear

Light clothing is ideal, no jean material. Full underwear (men and women), shorts, bra, bathing suits, tank tops (preferably that do not cross in the back) are all okay. Overall, I want you to feel comfortable while allowing access to work while being able to move and stretch during the session.
